It was exciting to see service emerge in the debate — a topic they both agree upon and so perhaps less likely to come-up at this moment as each tries to further define differences. The question had to do with asking the American people to sacrifice and take an active role in the change that our country needs. Obama made explicit references to doubling the Peace Corps and the energy of younger folks to get involved in service. McCain was not as explicit, but has repeatedly and consistently discussed his support for expanding service programs and calling on Americans.

Both nominees are co-sponsors of the Serve America Act which will reinvigorate our nation’s commitment to service.

The bill has tremendous bi-partisan support including the authors Senators Kennedy and Hatch.  See the full list of co-sponsors here.

The bill will be reintroduced early in the next Congress and we will be sure to keep you updated.
