Update @ 9:56: President George W. Bush, from the White House, commends the governors and citizens of the Gulf Coast states for their work and service in response to the Hurricane.

Update @ 9:27: Current speaker (didn’t catch his name) is the founder of an entirely volunteer-led non-profit that he founded. He had one of the best lines of the evening when he said, “Make service a way of life.”

Update @ 9:15: A democrat is speaking. He’s a second generation Mexican-American whose father is a veteran and Purple Heart recipient of World War II. He talks about service running deep in his family. He just mentioned that he’s the God Father of John McCain’s son, Jimmy and supporting McCain.

Update @ 9:11: Firefighter from Minneapolis talks about responding to the collapsed bridge last year and calls the citizens who responded “heroes.”

Update @ 9:03: Former Superintendent of Arizona encourages people to give back and help those affected by Hurricane Gustav. She even pitches donating by texting the Red Cross at “Give to Help.”

Observation @ 8:42: The talk of service is truly incredible. It’s possible because Senator McCain has such a stellar record on which to base an entire night of the convention. The speaker (not sure of his name) is talking about the McCain’s adoption of two children from an orphanage run by Mother Theresa.

Update @ 8:40pm: Jo Ann Davidson, Co-Chairman of the Republican National Committee and Chairman of the 2008 Republican National Convention Committee on Arrangements, just complemented Senator McCain for his strong support of national service programs and educating incentives for joining the military. Good stuff.
